This is what The WILD has to say about themselves…

We are five friends having a great time playing music together… We all feel the best when we are traveling together and getting to see old friends, making new ones, jumping off of high things into water, and playing music every night. right now everybody lives all over the country…. We’re from Atlanta, Lexington, Denver, Brooklyn, and Massachusetts… We write songs that are political and personal.

I hope you all enjoy this album, but it is different from my usual posts. Balto came into being when Daniel Sheron abandoned his life in Moscow, Russia and went alone into Siberia. Against an ever-shifting backdrop of railways and desolate wastes, he wrote a cycle of folk songs to tell the story of what had happened in that strange country, why he had exiled himself, and why he thought it mattered. On the morning of December 15, 2010, six friends entered Grand Street Recording in Brooklyn, New York and emerged that night with an album that no one had expected: October’s Road.

If you haven’t seen videos of how he creates music I recommend looking them up somewhere. Benn Jordan is an idm musician operating under many pseudonyms. Since 1999 his most widely distributed and eclectic music has been released under the name of The Flashbulb, whose songs mostly fall under the idm/breakcore genre. Other names Benn operates under are Benn Jordan, Q-Bit, Flexe, Dr. Lefty, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, DJ ASCII, Lucid32, Dysrhythmia, chr15tpunch3r, Sixty Six Ex, rapemachine and rnd16.

The Wombats are a three-piece indie band from Liverpool, England. They are composed of two native Liverpudlians; front man Matthew Murphy, provider of voice, guitar and keyboards, drummer and b-vocalist Dan Haggis and bass and additional vocalist Tord Øverland-Knudsen, a Norwegian who has made his home in the city. The three met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The school gave them the chance to play gigs to over 20,000 people in China. This was one of the band’s first trips to play outside the UK.

Now 25, she has been breaking new ground on both the live and electronic music scenes playing events all over the world icluding the US, Asia, Europe and Canada. LYNX’s Music combines elements of electronica, folk, indie pop and hip hop. Her lyrics are catchy and thought provoking while her beats keep things dancy and deep. She is just as at home playing her banjo and singing in a living room as she is playing some of the biggest electronic music festivals around.

They are best known for the 2006 single “Young Folks”, which featured Victoria Bergsman, formerly of The Concretes, and was a top 20 hit in the UK Singles Chart, as well as being featured in football video game FIFA 08. It was also named NME’s second-best track of 2006, beaten only by “Over and Over” by Hot Chip.

I was hoping to post an album by Red Pens, but I can’t find their music anywhere to upload to Grooveshark. Middle Brother is an American Rock band and supergroup consisting of songwriters and musicians John J. McCauley III of the band Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit. They played their first show at the 2010 the SXSW film conference and festival at the Ale House in Austin, Texas, where they performed under the moniker “MG&V” in an unannounced appearance.[1] The band played their first official show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California on December 20, 2010 under the official name of Middle Brother.

After looking them up I asked a few friends about them, and only a couple people were listening to them. DeVotchKa is a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, and Bolero, music with American punk and folk roots. They take their name from Anthony Burgess’ Nadsat (the language used throughout ‘A Clockwork Orange’) word for “young girl,” which is itself derived from the Russian word devochka(девочка) of the same meaning. Based in Denver, Colorado, the quartet is made up of Nick Urata, who sings and plays theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano…

Finally back in Minneapolis where I can have my workspace to get some of my projects started back up, this being one of them. I have some lesser known treats also waiting on some formatting and uploading. St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, so here is the newest album from the celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys which just came out this year.

They were formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, United States in 1996. First playing together in the basement of a friend’s barbershop, the band made a name for itself because of its relentless touring and for its annual St. Patrick’s Day weekend shows in Boston. The band’s songs often deal with the working-class environment in which its members grew up. The band put out a series of EPs and was signed by Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong’s label Hellcat Records. In 1998, the Dropkick Murphys released their first full-length album, Do or Die.

I am a big Kepi fan, and because of that I ended up seeing a show he played in Stockton, CA at the Plea for Peace center with Pets. For those that don’t know, I live in Minneapolis. Through a contest at the show of who can release the most energy I won copy of Ready the Rifles by Pets as did two of my friends who were with me. I am not sure if the album has been released yet, but I can tell you this… it is great and was played more than once on the drive back to my friend’s place in Southern California.

The show and venue were amazing. I would say anyone living in Oakland/San Francisco should check it out at least once. Jason Webley will be playing there soon, and the venue was founded in part through Mike Park of Asian Man Records. Basically the venue was destined to be a fun, which made the venue a perfect fit for a Kepi or Pets show.

I am actually only on my netbook still, so I have no way of ripping the album to post to grooveshark… which makes me feel like this post may be a bit ridiculous, but I do recommend checking it out or picking it up.

P.S. Every band that played that night rocked.
